Get involved in this free exciting event where you will be part of creating an inspiring vision for Kingston. Are you aged between 19 and 25, or over 55? Do you want to have your say and put Kingston on the map as a better, greener place to live?
Transition Town Kingston is a community action group dedicated to tackling the challenges of climate change (emissions) and peak oil (dwindling natural resources) through supporting local food, waste, energy and transport projects.
The kinds of projects we do
Since July 2008 we have been working in Kingston to build awareness of the key issues and encourage local people to take action. Along the way we have:
In May, as part of “Think in Kingston” we held a “Visioning” Event where over 200 local residents shared their hopes for Kingston’s future in the historic Parish Church on the Market Square.
In the evening we had a panel discussion on the theme of “Who runs Kingston”; guest panellists included town centre management, a local green champion, a local business person and the leader of the council.
In the Spring and Autumn we held training sessions on how to build a raised bed for organic, “no dig” vegetable growing.
In October, people came to the Environment Centre to learn how to make cold frames to protect their winter vegetables and spring seedlings, recycling old sash windows and pieces of discarded wood.
What next?
On Saturday, 17th April 2010 Transition Town Kingston is hosting a big party in Kingston, called “The Great Unleashing”!
Everybody is welcome from in and around Kingston. There’ll be lots to see and do including music, dance, discussion, short films and fun hands-on activities for all ages.
A host of surprise guests from the local community will be partying with us and a feast of locally-sourced refreshments will be on offer.
It will be both a celebration of our achievements since Transition Town Kingston started and a commitment to create and run projects in the future that will build towards an “Energy Descent Action Plan”.
